7pm Musician’s Memorial 2022 Some of the top names in music who passed away in 2022 are noted and celebrated in this two hour long special hosted by music historian and documentarian Paul Ingles. Among those featured Fleetwood Mac’s Christine McVie, Ronnie Spector, Country music’s Loretta Lynn and Naomi Judd, Rappers Coolio and Takeoff, Motown writer Lamont Dozier, Jazz great Ramsey Lewis, Olivia Newton-John, pioneering rocker Jerry Lee Lewis and many more.
9pm “A Vintage New Year” We’re going to ring in 2023 by combining an esoteric mix of New Year’s themed songs that celebrate New Year hope and celebration, and right down to the loneliest among us. The songs are performed by a diverse assortment of artists from Pop Vocalists to Jazz, R&B…even Doo-Wop! Host Jim Raposa has collected songs by artists such as Johnny Otis, Bing Crosby, Billy Ward and his Dominoes, Charles Brown, Nat King Cole, Lou Rawls, The Manhattans and many more.
10pm Frank Sinatra New Year’s Eve Concert The “Chairman of the Board” returns with live concert highlights.
11pm Armed Forces Radio New Year Eve Dance Party 1945 A New Year’s tradition for many years on old time network radio featuring live band remotes and the top bands of the day in a major celebration soon after the second world war ended.
12 Mid 1927 New Year’s Eve Bash Lindbergh flew the Atlantic that spring. The first transatlantic phone connection was made just 7 days into the New Year. Babe Ruth hit 60 home runs (a record that stood for over 30-years), and the first “talkie” (motion picture with sound) was released starring Al Jolson, The Jazz Singer.
To top all of that, 1927 is considered by many jazz historians the year traditional jazz reached its zenith. Across the spectrum of pop and jazz from the late teens to the early 1930s, this series from the Club McKenzie invites you to share in the talents and tales of the musicians and performers that created an unforgettable era.
